Unlike conventional gearboxes with four, five, or six gear ratios, the Nissan Murano is driven by a CVT with infinite ratios, courtesy of a steel drive belt and variable pulleys in the transmission. The advantages of the Murano's CVT include the availability of optimal torque on demand in most driving conditions and enhanced fuel efficiency from running the Murano engine in the sweetest part of its RPM range.  One of the great compliments that our customers can give the Nissan Xtronic CVT is that they can drive the Murano without even noticing that the Murano has CVT.  The shifting and drivability are incredibly smooth, like those of a highly advanced conventional automatic, combined with practical fuel efficency.
