Nissan Concept Car

What does Nissan have planned for beyond 2007, 2008 and 2009?  Nissan concept cars can often give us a good idea.  Although concept cars are almost never turned directly into production cars, allowing for the homologation and other changes necessary to accommodate regulations in every market that Nissan sells in, Nissan concept cars can at least provide indications of the company's design directions, as well as test market reactions to styling.

Certainly, some designs just become concept car wallpaper, but concept cars and prototype cars aren't usually meant to be production cars, even though they are a tool for designing the future.  If appealing enough, the concept car can create a buzz, through the car industry, through the car media and with the public.

Especially when it takes about 6 years in the motor industry to go from initial concept car sketch to production, concept cars are a valuable step in the planning and construction of cars. So the 2006 concept car from last year's Auto Shows may contribute strongly to the production car of 2012 and similarly the 2007 concept car could give us some good indications of the production cars of 2013.

Will you find a concept car for sale? It's unlikely.  Most of them are not designed to be road-going at the initial concept production.  If you watch the movie: "Tucker - the man and his dream" about Preston Tucker and his Tucker Torpedo, the concept showing in the movie isn't too far off the how real concept shows come together sometimes!  In recent years, an American CEO of another brand got an embarrassing surprise when the door handle of a concept car came off in his hand in front of the press at an auto show launch!

Most manufacturers probably either euthanise their concept cars or put them into storage for possible inclusion in future concept car shows or other public displays.

With the abundance of concept cars produced each year, perhaps its not long before we have a fully dedicated concept car auto show ( no production cars allowed )! It would be great fun for whoever got to promote it.  Imagine designing the ads for the ultimate auto show - concept cars.
